To manage inventory in Shopify, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Shopify admin account.
- Click on the "Products" tab on the left-hand side of the dashboard.
- Select the product you want to manage inventory for, or click on the "Add product" button to create a new product.
- In the product details page, scroll down to the "Inventory" section.
- Set the "SKU" (stock keeping unit) for the product, which is a unique identifier for each item.
- Specify the initial quantity of the product in the "Quantity" field.
- Choose the "Inventory policy" that fits your business needs. The options are:
- "Continue selling when out of stock": Allows customers to purchase the product even when it is out of stock. Ensure you have a backorder or fulfillment system in place.
- "Allow only the products in stock to be sold": Prevents customers from purchasing the product when it is out of stock.
- Enable the "Track quantity" checkbox to automatically update the product quantity based on sales.
- If you want to receive an email notification when the product's inventory reaches a certain threshold, enable the "Email me when the inventory is low" checkbox and set the "Inventory threshold" value.
- Save the changes.
You can also manage inventory in bulk by using the CSV import/export feature, or by integrating third-party inventory management apps from the Shopify App Store if you require more advanced functionalities.
