SEO is just internet marketing and internet marketing is such a big thing today; most companies have an SEO marketing position within their company. Individuals who are SEO professionals have backgrounds from many different industries, such as computer programming to entertainment. When it comes to building a career as an SEO marketer, there is not a particular set of skills that will guarantee success, but specific skills can help an individual be more successful. When companies are looking to hire an SEO marketer, they look for someone who can think critically, has good technical skills, has good speaking and writing skills, and has good social skills. These are just a few of the skills that an SEO marketer should have to succeed, but not the only ones.

Critical thinking is essential for an SEO marketer to have because they must have the ability to differentiate between causation and correlation. Good technical skills are needed because SEO marketers have to make recommendations and decisions about basic HTML tags, web page speed and many other factors on a company's website. An SEO marketer needs to have the ability to speak at meetings and in front of crowds because this can bring in more customers, making the company more profitable. Writing makes an SEO marketer more valuable because they can author original content for marketing purposes. Social skills are necessary because if an SEO marketer is at an event and is sociable, this gives them the potential to build essential business relationships.
