Connecting Google Search Console to a website built with Webflow involves verifying your site with Google to prove that you own it. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
- Set Up Your Webflow Project:
Ensure your website is published and accessible via a custom domain. Setting up Google Search Console for Webflow-hosted domains is not directly supported.
- Access Google Search Console:
Go to the Google Search Console site and sign in with your Google account.
Click on "Start now" to access the dashboard.
- Add Your Webflow Site:
Click the "Add Property" button.
Choose "Domain" for a holistic view of your entire domain, or "URL prefix" if you only want to verify a specific URL. For Webflow, "URL prefix" often makes more sense if you're working with a specific path or subfolder.
- Verify Ownership:
HTML File Upload: If you opted for "URL prefix," you can verify using various methods, but the simplest is often through the HTML tag.
Once you select one of these, Google will provide a verification HTML file or tag. Choose the HTML tag method.
Copy the meta tag that Google provides.
- Add the Verification HTML to Webflow:
Go to your Webflow project dashboard.
Navigate to the "Project Settings."
Select the "Custom Code" tab.
In the "Head Code" section, paste the HTML meta tag provided by Google.
Save the changes.
- Publish Your Webflow Site:
After adding the meta tag, publish your website to ensure the changes take effect.
- Complete Verification:
Go back to the Google Search Console and click the "Verify" button.
If everything is set up correctly, Google should verify the site promptly.
- Set Up Preferred Settings and Sitemap Submission:
Once your site is verified, you can submit your sitemap to Google Search Console. In Webflow, your sitemap is automatically generated at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
Go to the "Sitemaps" section in Google Search Console and submit your sitemap.
By following these steps, you should be able to connect and verify your Webflow website with Google Search Console, allowing you to track its performance in Google Search and receive valuable insights.
